INSTRUCTIONS:
THIS PROGRAM PLAYS 3 SIMILAR AND FASCINATING DICE GAMES: YAHTZEE, YACHT, AND
CRAG.
ALL ARE PLAYED WITH A FIXED NUMBER OF DICE (5 IN YAHTZEE AND YACHT, 3 IN
CRAG), AND A SPECIALLY-MARKED BOARD.
PLAYERS:
FROM 1 TO 8 PLAYERS MAY PLAY, ONE OF WHICH MAY BE THE COMPUTER.
THE BOARDS:
EACH PLAYER GETS ONE VERTICAL COLUMN ON THE GAME BOARD DISPLAY.
THE HORIZONTAL ROWS ARE CALLED GAME BOARDS. THE GAME BOARDS ARE
NUMBERED 1 THRU 9 THEN A THRU D. ON EACH PLAY YOU WILL GET ONE ROLL
OF THE 5 DICE, FOLLOWED BY TWO CHANCES (ONE IN CRAG) TO RE-ROLL ALL, NONE,
OR ANY 1-5 SELECTED DICE.
NOTE: WHEN YOU ENTER THE NUMBER OF DICE YOU WANT TO RE-ROLL, YOU CAN ENTER
"N" OR "0" OR <ENTER> TO MEAN NONE, 5 OR "A" TO MEAN ALL, "S"
TO MEAN ALL SINGLETS (DICE WITH UNIQUE VALUES), OR "1" THRU "5".
WHEN YOU ENTER THE DICE YOU WANT TO RE-ROLL, ENTER "0" IF YOU HAVE
MADE A MISTAKE AND WANT TO START ENTERING THE DICE NUMBERS ALL OVER;
ANY OTHER ENTRIES OTHER THAN "1" THRU "5" WILL BE IGNORED.
SCORING:
YOU THEN MUST 'SCORE' EACH PLAY BY PICKING A BOARD NUMBER WITH ITS OWN
SCORING RULE: THE GAME ENDS WHEN ALL BOARDS ARE SCORED.
A SCORING RULE IS A FORMULA FOR CONVERTING THE 5 DICE INTO A SCORE.
FOR EXAMPLE, BOARD 3 SCORES THE DICE THAT HAVE EXACTLY THREE DOTS,
THAT IS, IT SETS THE SCORE FOR BOARD 3 TO THE SUM OF THE DOTS ON THOSE DICE
THAT HAVE EXACTLY THREE DOTS. FOR EXAMPLE, IF YOU HAVE A 1 DIE, A 2 DIE,
TWO 3 DICE, AND A 6 DIE, YOUR SCORE FOR BOARD 3 WILL BE 2 X 3 = 6.
REMEMBER: ONCE SCORED, A BOARD CANNOT BE RESCORED, EVEN IF YOUR SCORE IS 0!
THE ESSENCE OF THE GAME IS TO SCORE EACH PLAY ON THE BEST BOARD.
THE LOWER BOARDS:
BESIDES BOARDS 1-6, WHICH SCORE ONE POINT FOR EACH DOT ON VALID DICE,
THE BOARDS 7-D SCORE SPECIAL DICE COMBINATIONS, DIFFERENT FOR EACH
TYPE OF GAME, AS FOLLOWS:
YAHTZEE:
BOARD 7: THREE OF A KIND (SCORE=SUM OF THE 5 DICE)
BOARD 8: FOUR OF A KIND (SCORE=SUM OF THE 5 DICE)
BOARD 9: FULL HOUSE (2 OF A KIND AND 3 OF A KIND) (SCORE=25 POINTS)
BOARD A: SMALL STRAIGHT (ANY SEQUENCE OF FOUR) (30 POINTS)
BOARD B: LARGE STRAIGHT (ANY SEQUENCE OF FIVE) (40 POINTS)
BOARD C: CHANCE (SCORE=SUM OF THE 5 DICE).
BOARD D: YAHTZEE (FIVE OF A KIND) (50 POINTS). THIS BOARD MAY BE
PLAYED AS MANY TIMES AS YOU CAN GET A YAHTZEE, THE ONLY BOARD THAT
MAY BE SCORED MORE THAN ONCE.
NOTE: WHEN PROMPTED FOR WHICH BOARD TO SCORE, INSTEAD OF ENTERING
"7","8","9","A","B","D", YOU MAY ENTER "T" (TRIPLET), "Q" (QUARTET),
"F","S","L","Y".
YACHT:
BOARD 7: NOT USED
BOARD 8: FOUR OF A KIND (SUM OF DICE)
BOARD 9: FULL HOUSE (2 OF A KIND AND 3 OF A KIND) (SUM OF DICE)
BOARD A: LITTLE STRAIT (1,2,3,4,5) (30 POINTS)
BOARD B: BIG STRAIT (2,3,4,5,6) (30 POINTS)
BOARD C: CHANCE (SUM OF DICE)
BOARD D: YACHT (5 OF A KIND) (50 POINTS). THIS BOARD MAY ONLY BE SCORED
ONCE.
NOTE: YOU CAN ENTER "Q", "F", "L", "Y" INSTEAD OF "8", "9", "A", "D".
CRAG:
BOARD 7: THREE OF A KIND (25 POINTS)
BOARD 8: LOW STRAIGHT (1,2,3) (20 POINTS)
BOARD 9: HIGH STRAIGHT (4,5,6) (20 POINTS)
BOARD A: ODD STRAIGHT (1,3,5) (20 POINTS)
BOARD B: EVEN STRAIGHT (2,4,6) (20 POINTS)
BOARD C: CRAG (ANY 3 DICE WHICH TOTAL 13 AND CONTAIN A PAIR) (50 POINTS)
BOARD D: THIRTEEN (ANY 3 DICE WHICH TOTAL 13) (26 POINTS)
NOTE: YOU CAN ENTER "T", "L", "H", "O", "E" INSTEAD OF "7", "8", "9",
"A", "B".
SCORE BOARDS:
THERE IS AN UPPER TOTAL BOARD (SUM OF BOARDS 1-6), A LOWER TOTAL
BOARD (SUM OF BOARDS 7-D), AND A GRAND TOTAL BOARD. THESE BOARDS
ARE AUTOMATICALLY KEPT BY THE COMPUTER.
SPECIAL RULE IN YACHT: YOUR FIRST PLAY MUST BE TO THE YACHT BOARD;
YOU MUST KEEP RE-ROLLING UNTIL YOU GET A YACHT, YOUR SCORE BEING
"DOCKED" FIVE POINTS FOR EVERY ROLL AFTER THE THIRD; IF YOU GET
A NEGATIVE SCORE, YOUR YACHT IS SUNK! (FOR DISPLAY CONTROL, THE LOWEST
SCORE YOU CAN GET THIS WAY IS A -95).
SPECIAL BOARD IN YAHTZEE:
IN YAHTZEE, THE BONUS UPPER BOARD AUTOMATICALLY READS 35 WHEN
THE UPPER BOARD TOTAL IS GREATER THAN 62, ELSE IT IS ALWAYS 0.

SPECIAL CONTROLS:
SOUND EFFECTS TOGGLE:
FUNCTION KEY F1 WILL TOGGLE THE SOUND EFFECTS ON AND OFF.
DEMO MODE TOGGLE:
FUNCTION KEY F2 WILL TOGGLE THE DEMO MODE. IN DEMO MODE, THE
COMPUTER TAKES OVER ALL PLAYERS' TURNS.
TO QUIT:
FUNCTION KEY F7, OR THE ESC KEY, WILL EXIT THE GAME.
TO CHANGE THE SCREEN BORDER COLOR (COLOR MONITORS ONLY):
HIT FUNCTION KEY F10.
ARROW KEYS:
THE 4 ARROW KEYS ON THE NUMERIC KEY PAD CONTROL THE FOLLOWING FUNCTIONS:
SPEED CONTROL: THE UP ARROW INCREASES, AND THE DOWN ARROW DECREASES, THE
GAME SPEED.
PITCH CONTROL: THE LEFT ARROW LOWERS, AND THE RIGHT ARROW INCREASES, THE
PITCH OF THE SOUND MADE BY THE DICE BEING ROLLED.
TO DISPLAY THESE INSTRUCTIONS: HIT FUNCTION KEY F5.
TO SKIP THE STARTUP SHOW: HIT THE <ENTER> KEY TWICE INSTEAD OF ONCE WHEN
RUNNING THE PROGRAM FROM DOS.
COMMAND LINE PARAMETERS:
S START UP WITH SOUND OFF
M FORCE MONO DISPLAY MODE
C FORCE COLOR DISPLAY MODE
* SKIP THE STARTUP SHOW
